Recognizing graduate student mentors
GPSA is pleased to recognize and promote volunteer mentorship by acknowledging outstanding mentors. The Outstanding Mentor Award program, administered by the GPSA Office of Professional Development, recognizes graduate and professional students from all four ASU campuses who demonstrate excellence in mentorship.
Individuals are eligible to be nominated if enrolled in at least one hour of graduate-level credit during the semester in which the award program takes place. Qualifying mentoring includes work with undergraduate students, graduate students, and/or community members, completed on a volunteer (i.e., unpaid) basis and concurrent with enrollment as a graduate or professional student at ASU. Mentoring through formal programs (e.g., Shades, Big Brothers/Big Sisters) qualifies, as does independent mentoring. Mentoring that is financially compensated or a requirement of a paid assistantship or other employment is ineligible for this award.
Nominations and Applications
Nominations will be accepted from mentees who are undergraduate students, graduate students, and community members until February 15, 2015. Nominations will also be accepted from organizers of ASU and/or community-based mentoring programs. Self-nominations are not accepted for this program. Application materials are due by March 15, 2015. Decisions will be made by April 15, 2015. More information will be posted soon. For questions, please email email@example.com.
Nominations will be solicited annually during the Spring semester. Students will be notified of their nomination and asked to submit application materials. The Outstanding Mentor Award sub-committee is responsible for evaluating nominations and applications and selecting awardees. The sub-committee is comprised of members of the Professional Development Committee of the GPSA Assembly, other graduate student volunteers, and invited ASU faculty and administrators. Recipients will be selected in March or early April. Recipients will be recognized at an annual reception held during the Spring semester.
More information and due dates will be available on the GPSA website later in the fall semester. For immediate questions, please email Pauline Venieris, VP of Professional Development, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
