Q: How much money can I get with this program?
A: Terminal research (defined as directly benefiting your Thesis or Dissertation) is limited to a maximum award of $2000.00, while independent research is limited to $750.00 maximum award.
Q: Can I submit an application with a co-applicant or co-author?
A: No, you cannot. Each student applies for their own independent project funding.
Q: What is the date range that I can be reimbursed for?
A: From July 1st to June 30th of the current academic year. Any receipts that you are looking to be reimbursed for must fall within that date range.
Q: When will I be notified if I won an award?
A: In early November for Fall applications and mid-March for Spring applications
Q: When is my application due?
A: Fall 2017 applications are due Sunday, October 1st, 2017, by 11:59PM AZ time; Spring 2018 applications are due Saturday, February 3rd, 2018, by 11:59PM AZ time
Q: How do I submit an application?
A: First, create a ZoomGrants profile if you do not already have one. Then, go to the GPSA ZoomGrants webiste to submit an application. Be sure to choose the “Graduate Research Support Program” from the list of research grant programs you are applying to. More detailed directions are listed on the Application Instructions page.
Q: Is a letter of intent due?
A: No. We no longer require a letter of intent.
Q: Do I need to submit my curriculum vitae or resume?
A: Yes, the online application will prompt you to upload your CV. Make sure to remove any mention of your name from your CV to ensure a blind review. This includes at the top of the CV as well as within publications. You may replace your name in publications with ‘Author.’
Q: Who reviews my application?
A: Graduate students at ASU. The review committee is interdisciplinary, so your proposal should be written in non-technical language appropriate for a graduate student audience.
Q: Will my adviser, committee chair, or someone else be required to submit a letter of recommendation?
A: We will contact your advisor shortly after the submission deadline requesting a brief recommendation form to be completed. If we need additional information to process your application, we will let you know.
Q: Am I required to have matching or outside funds?
A: While you are not required to have matching or outside funds, we highly suggest that you attempt to find outside funds as this makes your application more competitive (insofar that we can foresee you completing the entire project). However, outside funds can include your anticipated contributions to the project should you receive partial funding.
Q: Can funding be used for travel to the research site (i.e. gas money, tolls, airline tickets)?
A: Yes, funding can be used for travel if the travel relates to the research. However, grant funds cannot be used for travel to conferences to present research.
Q: Can I apply for more than one grant? For example, I want to apply for a dissertation grant AND as a co-investigator on a separate research grant.
A: Individuals can apply for more than one grant, but the projects have to be absolutely different.
Q: If I have received a research grant from GPSA in past years, can I apply for another grant for this year?
A: Yes, there is no limit on applying in different years. However, the application cannot be for the same project that was funded in the past.
