The International Student Affairs Committee serves the needs of international graduate students through advocacy and support to ensure they have access to opportunities available to them to achieve a balanced and successful academic, professional and personal development while pursuing their degree programs. Through social and wellbeing programs and initiatives, the committee promotes social and cultural adjustment to help international students feel at home. The committee also fosters engagement and community building among all international students to celebrate diversity and multiculturalism.
Short Bio: Fred Agbemade
Fred Agbemade was born in Abor, a small Ewe-speaking community in Ghana, West Africa. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish from the University of Ghana. Fred studied Spanish at the University of Cienfuegos, Cuba. He participated in an internship program with University of Seville’s Translation Bureau while pursuing Translation Studies at the University of Sevilla, Spain. He then continued to Ohio University where he obtained a Master’s degree in Spanish Language & Literature. Fred Agbemade is currently a Spanish Ph.D. candidate in the School of International Letters and Cultures at Arizona State University. His research interests include Afro-Caribbean & Latin American literature culture.
As a student leader, Fred served in multiple positions in ASU’s graduate student government: GPSA Assembly member for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), Humanities; Chair, GPSA CLAS Committee. He was a member of GPSA’s External Affairs, Diversity & Inclusion, International Student Affairs, and CLAS Committees. Fred Agbemade is currently the Director of International Student Affairs and the Chair of the International Student Affairs Committee.
